Yes I have done some volunteering work... I did it cuz I have always wanted to help children with special needs... it makes me feel like Am using my abilities to help those who need assistance from people like us. I wanted to make them feel that no matter wht we are there to help them in their lives and not be ignored or left out.
The benifit is the love and affection u get from those people... and it is very rewarding.
The govt shoud encourage people to volunteer more and help as much as they can.
I can support it by joining one of the many organisations we have and to inform my family and freinds abt our activities.

I'd say I've done as much volenteer work as the average person. I've helped out with beach clean ups a couple of times in Oman.

I dont think anyone is doing anything to promote volenteer work. Thats sad. Our school used to promote it to an extent but most people just did it coz it was fun. What sucked was we'd have to stay for 2 more hours after school and school ended at 3 PM.

The govt is definitely not doing enough. I would have loved to volenteer at a children's hospital or something. No one pushed us. And now its too late (for me).

As an individual, if I really found it important, I'd start an organization.

Why is it imp? I'd do it for the experience. Of course, theres always the satisfaction of helping.

Q1. Have you done any volunteering work? If yes, what and why did you do it? And if no why didn#8217;t you do any?
Well yes I have actually. I have explained that part of doing the IB program at school, is doing CAS hours where you need 50 hours of service for the community. A group of students from grade 11 and 12 would go to the handicapped childrens place and play with them and bring them toys and stuff And it felt really good to bring a smile to a childs face. We also went to Tansania where we helped take part in building a school for the children there

Q2. How do people volunteer in Oman? As chitchi pointed out I dont think that there are many people in oman wanting to volunteer for anything. But it just takes one person to stand up and make a difference, and i for one would love to be the starter of some type of volunteering!

Q3. What are the benefits of volunteering ? You have a personal benefit to volunteering - feeling that you have done something that is good for the community and knowing that you have made a difference to someones life thats the best!

Q4. What should the government#8217;s role be in promoting volunteering? The government should inform people and give us more information about where volunteering is needed most in oman. As chitchi said, me too would love to do some volunteer work for the community - like childrens hospital

Q5. How can you as an individual encourage or support volunteering work in Oman? Well if i am part of an organization or if I am volunteering at a place where more people are needed I will ask my close friends who i trust to come and give us a hand Education!!! People need to be aware about how important it is to help make our world a better place!

Jinan,

I didnt know that! Thats great news. Unfortunately, I dont live in Oman now and it'll be that way for a couple of years but I would definitely be interested to do something when I'm back. Thanks.

I just think whoever organized all this should promote it more. When I was in school, I never knew abt this SQU program.

Last evening , I was at the meeting at the early intervention centre... we want to raise alot of funds for the children and the teachers - long term funds that is- we have decided on a few programmes that might help us to raise the amount we want... I hope things work out for us.
