Yeah I heard about the rain.I am stuck here in Thumrait on an oil rig.We had no phone connection for the whole day cos of the rains in Muscat.Apparently the telecoms tower got hit by lightning last night. If it was not for the Thuraya phone we have...we would have no outside link with the world.
Now it looks like its gonna rain here.I hope it won't be as heavy as Muscat!!

Its expected to rain on thursday .. lets see how bad it is.
16th April 2003, 07:58 AM
Why dont you like rain? I thought everyone in Oman loved rain. I really wanna be there now. My parents said there was a lot of thunder, lightning and heavy rain. They loved it.

Jinan,
That's funny - you were telling me about it raining in Muscat... and the very next day, it rained in Phoenix!! That too the middle of April... Weird! It's cold today!

Oh I love to watch the lightning and stand in the rain...
It's just dealing with the fact that the garden gets destroyed, your house gets flooded, and your car gets trashed that I don't like...
It was an AMAZING show of lightning though... above and beyond the promised "Shock and Awe"!!!
Lightning bolts arced accross the sky from beyond Seeb all the way over to PDO and beyond... just one big bolt... Quite a few ground contacts too.

Oman's weather is extremist. Either sunny and burning hot or raining heavily and cold.
Anyhow, Don't you guys think Muscat is a paradise? Such a beautiful, clean and wonderful city.
phatguy, All religions are welcome in Oman. You're very welcome to Oman anytime. However,Israeli passport holders, and those, who have visited Israel ,can't enter Oman. It's not to do with Judaism , but political relations between the countries.

Depends on how old that Israel stamp on your passport is I guess - which in your case would be 7 years... Is there a statute of limitations in the visiting Israel thing?

Dont let that discourage you. We have many Jews in Oman. My physics teacher in school was (and still is) Jewish. They usually like to keep a low profile though. There is no law in Oman the discriminates against Jews. Unlike Europe and the US, we've never had such laws. We even have Omani Jews in the south. They're as Omani as the Muslims.
If you're a Zionst, I'd suggest you keep your views to yourself (if you go to Oman). Being publicly pro-Israel in an Arab country can be very offensive. Otherwise, you're more than welcome.
If you've been to Israel, you can not enter any Arab country that hasn't officially recognized Israel. Most of the people that travel to Israel and would like to travel to Arab countries in the future have a special piece of paper stamped at the Israeli airport instead of their passports. This is common and most Israeli embassies would reccomend it. There is no way you can get into an Arab country (besides Jordan and Egypt) with an Israeli visa or stamp (whether you visited Israel once or more, even if it was in 1948). Thats the case with every Arab League member (besides the ones mentioned). Many Americans who travel in the Middle East like to have two passports. If the authorities in Oman can't prove your visit to Israel, you can visit.

Dear Chitchi,
I'd like to know what's the white tower on 1st pic you posted.
When I was at university one of my dearest friends of mine was from muscat and after he left Italy he sent me postacard. Among them there was one with this strange building. As I haven't heard from him for ages, i can't ask anybody for an explanation. Does somebody want to help me?

The pictures I posted are of : Bandar Al Jassa, Al-Qurum , Al-Seeb, Al Hail, Mutrah, Al-Khuwair, Al-Qurum and Bustan Palace Hotel, respectively.
Chitchi, I don't know why, But I thought the colorful fish gives you a strong romantic boost (funny, isn't it?).It also shows the colorful deep water of Oman.
AlNAMAANI, Al Bustan Palace beach is one of the cleanest and quitest beaches I have ever seen.
This is an old portrait, they have a better seaside garden now..

That white tower is at the Riyam garden(HADIKA RIYAM) in Muscat. It is one of the most scenic gardens in Muscat.it is quite close to the Muscat corniche and His majesty's palace.

msabiu, that is some kind of building on the Riyam Park. I have no idea what its for but I can tell you that a high school friend's dad had a hand in designing it. <img src="/threads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
Can anyone label my pictures?
Morbid, please avoid chit chatting.

chitchi, The pictures you posted are of : Riyam Park Tower, Bustan Palace Hotel Beach, Al Qurum Beach mountains, Wadi Al-Kabeer roundabout and finally Dar Al Alam Palace. The fourth picture could be from the interior towns, not Muscat.
Look at this picture, I know where it is, Let me check how good you know Muscat.

You got it right, both scenes from Crown Plaze. The pictures were taken when the place was very quite and peaceful (apart of wednesday and Thursday nights) until the new road was introduced. Now it's mainly a place for flirts and hunters!
