View Full Version : Would you be a teacher?

MoonNursery

I was just thinking about how our life is influence by our teachers. Not only in school life but also after that and any new training and studies we do. But teachers do not get that much money, so is it better to be in noble job and influence people but not make too much money. Would you be a teacher for these reasons?

..at school level no...at college/univ level I would...

...during secondary school the teacher sometimes gave me students exams papers to correct...during college students used to sometimes ask me to tutor, and I did...it needs loads of patience!

No way, dont think i have enough patience for that! Though I have to admit, it's easier teaching older students (at secondary college level) than younger ones (primary middle school)..

I think it is harder to teach younger kids, but how about teaching to older students like 20-25 years for training and other classes?
is that also respectable or have we crossed that age when teacher is like God for us?

Morbid_Angel

to answer the question:

well first i have been influenced alot by my teachers at school and to be quite honest i dont know how i would have gotten through the last two years of IB without them. But we all have different dreams and goals we want to reach in our future and i personally wouldnt like to be a teacher in a school. But perhaps when i retire from practicing law, i may become a professor of law at a university./college level.

I also wanted to add that people shouldnt chose a job because of the amount of money they will be getting out of it, they should chose a career and a job that they ENJOY and will be able to give their all too. No point being a brain surgean for example just because your salary will be high - because u wont enjoy it, follow what you really want to do.

Miss Attitude u should admire and respect all teachers. They are taking their time to help you learn and get good marks. I really hate being a student in a class where other students around me have no respect for the teacher. I admit not all teachers know the right way to "spread their knowledge", but they dont get paid that much and just imagine how they feel when they are faced with ungreatful students who have no respect for them.Imagine how some teachers feel when they assign homework and students dont hand it in on time. Think about it

I Respect Teachers and admire their courage to take such positions cuz I know its not an easy job plus the pay is not what they deserve. Yet, I don't think I have the qualities to teach ppl ...

Miss Morbid Angels,,
i respect good Humans,, some teachers are not good Humans! simple

wud u respect a teacher who wud call names,, makes sure to embaress teh students! i mean i know there are alot of bad baaaad students,, lakin shudnt a teacher teach and be a role model!

some teachers are as bad as those bad students
such teachers i dotn repsect ,,
i wont show it to them ,, not bcoz they dont deserve the bad act but coz am not rude :P,,

lakin deep down i just dont feel that they r doing a big deal!

How can teacher hit kidz at 3rd, 4th or even 5th grad with those wooden rulers,, if u remebr guyz,, el-masa6r el-'7ashabiyaa,, with that sharo edge! Ouchhhhhhhhh!

Or some wud hit with a big huge MANQALAAh ehhehehe!

how saaaaaaad,, or call names,, or or or

those i DONT RESPECT

and am sure also Morbz u dont repsect them

"wud u respect a teacher who wud call names,, makes sure to embaress teh students!"

dear i respect them because i understand how frustrated they must get to go into a classroom and face students giving them a million excuses as to why they dont have their work in on time. To face students not paying attention and being very rude chatting with other classmates while they are trying to teach. Every teacher has their own way of discipling their students and if it means slightly humiliating them in order to make them behave and show some respect then so be it!

"How can teacher hit kidz at 3rd, 4th or even 5th grad with those wooden rulers"

I believe this method of disciplin is quite old now and many many schools around the world have abolished that form of disciplin. My father used to get wacked on his hands with wooden rulers and so did my mother. I agree thats not the way to solve problems but im sure it has shown its advantages. I mean children may feel obliged to do homework and study. Anyhow i dont agree with that method and im sure its rarely used these days.

"'and am sure also Morbz u dont repsect them "

u are wrong, i respect ALLL teachers. I have seen some that i dont really like being in their classrooms but at the end of the day my father is paying all that money for my education and the teachers are giving their all to make sure the students learn - so i have an unconditional respect for them!

Morbz,, u know wt ,,

u r not reading wt i wrote ,,

SOME TEACHERS ARE NOT GOOD HUMANS! those i DONT RESPECT !

hitting with rulers is still there i believe but Now if u say such old methods dont exist any more,, then i respeact all the teachers,,

if u say teachers are frustrated ,, Than i didnt say i wud just disrespect them coz they got tempored at a student once, twice,, or whateva no. of times,, lakin that tempor shud be within limit! They r adults and they shud be adult while dealing with a kid,, am talking about Kidz here,, leave teenagers ,,thats another story ,,

sometimes teachers who i have no probz with , got mad at me, and i still dont see anything wrong,, soemtimes they wud accuse of sth u didnt do! 3adii,, these stuff happen ,, and btw i was agood student,, so its not that am trying to defend my self!

i think if a student is really badd ,,then u know wt the teacher shud do ,, report to specialit ,, n let teh specialiest take care of that ,, or ask them to leave teh class room,, there alot of ways where u can teach such students a lesson n yet be good teachers,,

some teachers come, sit on chair, tell u : open ur note book and write this, and they wud start giving u bullet points and summaries,, and thats it ,, lesson taught! nw whts that?!

Some teacher's make student shiver when its thier class ! i personaly experineced teachers whom classes were more like a night mare then a class! they just want a chance to ask u sth Booooooof wait if u dont knwo teh answer!

I Believe every student has his own mind, if they choose to ignore studies,, they gona pay for it,, why be bad! just get them out of class,, n teach who is interested .. no need for getting violent n stuff,,

Ok ,, Now AM sure u wotn agree with me ,, lakin 3ADIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII

Morbid Says: ALL TEACHERS ARE GOOD AND WORTH RESPECT

Miss_AtTiTuDe says: SOME TEACHERS ARE JUST NOT GOOD TEACHERS AND HUMANS AND ARE NOT WORTH ANY RESPECT!

u agree with that ?! or still ?! :S :P

Morbid_Angel

"SOME TEACHERS ARE NOT GOOD HUMANS!"

trust me they are good humans, if they werent they wouldnt be teaching in a school that may have lots of "annoying rude children" who dont respect the teacher. Many children complain about their teachers and say "they are such a bad person blah blah" and WHY??? Because they dont like the fact that teacher gives them alot of homework or shouts at them in class because they werent paying attention etc.

"They r adults and they shud be adult while dealing with a kid"

teachers are humans too, they lose their temper at times just like parents and any other person in this world. Yes ofcourse their should be limits and im sure every teacher does have their limits BUT children complain coz they dont like getting the punishment the teacher gives them such as "detention all week" or write a 1000 word essay on whatever.

you will notice that if teachers are given respect by students, then students will definately be treated with equal respect. teachers are also older than u ande therefore should automatically be respected.if however u feel a teacher is way out of hand u just go complain to the principle.

if u were a teacher and u told the students to read something in biology for example so that u can discuss it the next day in class...and u asked a question and none of the students new the answer...dont tell me u wouldnt be a little angry....u would feel like the children arent respecting ur time and effort that u put into teaching right??????????????

Mornin Morbz and all ^_^
dear, i got it that u r a gr8 person and u respect a teacher the moment u know that they have the label "Teacher"

However, Do u respect Docs?! Doctors are also greate in what they do,, Lakin we all know how some of them are really bad humans and they use thier profession to fullfill some sickness within them in many number of ways,, do u agree with that?!

same way dear, there can be bad teachers,, maybe u were lucky n neva came across such teacherz ,, lakin they do exist,, maybe not that much but they r there,,

for gods sake they are humans! there can be good n there can be bad! How do expect a 3rd grade student for example to go and fiel a complain against a bad teacher! and at teh same time cant see it teh other way around! y some teachers get violent?! y they dont go n solve the matter or handle it in a more posittive way,, dotn tell me that when a teacher actss really bad with a student then thats good! u dotn kwo how many people loose and lost thier self confidence coz of constant attacks they get from thier teachers in teh class room!

teachers are liek our parents! if a kid does bad, then they shud be punished in a way that passes the msg ,, not takes away teh interest in class, or reduces thier self confidence, or makes them go even more bad!

dont u agree that teher are alot of abbusive bad Parents! i mean PARENTS! these are only Teachers! i mean it should be more difficult to accept or belive that parents can be abusive n bad humans, but am sure (another risk :S hehehe) that u can accept that fact,, faa whyyyy u cant accept the fact that Teachers r simply Humans! can be good and bad,, good ones r faar gr8 in wt they do than most of us ,, n baad ones,, are also really bad ,,

aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh what a start for my day

You cannot generalise here Miss Attitude, the way your looking at things is not right ... Unfortunately here, I have to agree with Morbid ... Fair is fair ... even if I don't like it :P

there are always some who are not good ppl, I agree, but u cannot generalise it ... bil3aks ... whether its a teacher, doctor, nurse, worker etc, u cannot label him/her as good/bad ppl ... your simply being unfair ... cuz regardless of their nature of work or profession, they are ppl ... and within ppl, u have so many kind of ppl ... some are good, some are bad !!!

Respect is for all ... Innocent untill proven Guilty, once proven guilty, u can say what u want ...

I have a 12 year old sister who is mashalla.. a very hard worker, loves school, loves homework, gets loads and loads of those " 6alibah almithaliya", "al6aliba almutamayiza: awards and certificates.. She is very creative and very neat when it comes to her School work.. i was telling her one day, please dont become an engineer, there are loads of us in the family..i would like u if u became a dr or acientist of some kind.. and she simply laughed at my face and said who told u i want to be a 6abeeba? I want to be an Arabic teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!" until this date i'm shocked and cannot get over it"..

but i think the qualities she has are perfect for a teacher.. she looks after my younger sister and brother and always reminds them to do their home work and check after them on daily basis.

Well it surely will be different for all of us if she ever became a teacher!

"However, Do u respect Docs?! "

i have very high respect to doctors because i know that myself for example i could never take that job. I mean when i watch TV and they show someone being operated on or even something as small as an injection, i really freak out and cant handle watching it. I respect doctors because they went through years of university to get where they are, they save peoples lives. Lets put aside the fact that maybe inside they may have a "bad spot" and lets leave that for the doctors friends and family to deal with - but when the doctor is on duty it is his/her top priority to look after the patients.

"same way dear, there can be bad teachers,,"

yes i have but they are not "bad" as u think they are. They are just doing their job. They dont want to teach a class where the students dont pay attention and are rude and loud mouthed, and so they have the right to enforce some type of discipline. So for example, at the end of the class, the students leave the room saying "oh he/she is such a bad person, they always shout and they dont care to give us all this work!!"....I mean i know i've said that before but as i got older i understood and began to put myself in the teachers position and i realized they are doing their job, they dont hate anyone - but they need to be the way they are because some students are simply big trouble makers !

"whyyyy u cant accept the fact that Teachers r simply Humans! "

ive already accepted that fact thats why i am able to understand how teachers feel sometimes! missy obviously u didnt read my previous post carefully, this is what i said:

teachers are humans too, they lose their temper at times just like parents and any other person in this world. Yes ofcourse their should be limits and im sure every teacher does have their limits BUT children complain coz they dont like getting the punishment the teacher gives them such as "detention all week" or write a 1000 word essay on whatever.

Duke DearZ
u can agree wid Morbz DearZ ,,, n Disagree wid Moi ,,No ProbZ

all that i said , i said in case when a teacher is proven guilty! we r not saying two different things here!

The thing is , when first i wrote that : however there are some teachers whom i dont respect , Morbz said that i shud respect all teachers coz they r all good other wise etc ect ect

i say, Nope not all of them are good, some can be proven to be Guilty, those i dont respect!

Duke,
u r wrong when u say there isnt a BAD person, we all ar egood and we all have good n bad stuff,,

yaa we all have good bad stuff,, mood swings, doing this, shouting at that , missunderstanding, being selfish at times, alot and alot of stuff which wont make us BAD,,lakin am not talking about such stuff,,

Lakin if a person is 90% full of crap and all that and 10% good, then to me that person is BAD

and am not saying that i hate that teacher ! am just saying i dont respect them as good teachers!

u guyz say same stuff as am saying in thsi topic, but coz i said I DOTN RESPECT BAD TEACHERS! u r making a big fuss!

khair ya 6errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
am wrong , u guys r rite!
in ur mind

still i dont feel i respect all my teachers at the same level! everyone gets teh respect they deserve to get, doc, freind, teacher,, everyone,, expect my parenst i have to repsect them always!

did I say there isnt a bad person ??!!! hmmm I dont think so, and if I did then forgive me ... typing mistake perhaps ... yes we all have our good and bad ... I'm sure its obvious from my post ... and yes, if your Proven Guilty, it doesnt matter whether your a teacher, Doctor or even a Minister !!!

and we are not making a big Fuff ... perhaps u didnt mean exactly the way we understood it ... but that is because u didnt exaplin your self properly, we can only understand and reply to what u post ... I'm sure your a great person and u didnt mean to say what we understood from your posts ...

everyone get different level of respect, but if u wana have a good life, try and respect all

i dont think anyone can be a good teacher..cause being a teacher requires certain qualities in a person..among most important qualities are patience and being a calm kind of person to deal with so many students and their unique personalities!..and unfortunatly i lack these aspects in me!

though i sometimes give my neices and nephewos some tutions in various subjects ( and i am very good at it)..but then thats totally diffrent issue!

Would I be a teacher?

Guess what I am a teacher.I changed my major thrice before ending up where I am. Its not a decision I would turn back on, first and foremost because I have always loved working with children which I think is an important factor of teaching. My second decision was made due to the fact that I move around quite alot (as in from country to country) so my best bet was to cling on to a field that is accepted and is constantly in demand worldwide, no matter what the circumstances are. Having recently seen friends of mine get retrenched from the engineering and finance sectors due to the failing economy, kinda got me thanking my lucky stars that I have chosen a career which needs to be up and running whether or not the economy fluctuates. As for where dosh is concerned. Im happy with what I earn. I would say what is more rewarding is being able to see your students grasp what you have taught them. And as for patience, I think this goes without saying for any job.The best deal about my job is that when schools out, I am entitled to enjoy the holidays as well.

Quite often in this forum people are asking for details of teachers of Arabic. Carry out a search and you may come across their posts.

The title of this thread will not give an indication of what you are wanting to do.

Teaching is hard work; non-teachers will tell you it is easy. I retrained as a mature student because I wanted to teach. So, yes is the answer to the first post in this thread, which began in 2003.
