Whats The Worst Example Of Driving You Have Seen?

Every day we see some AMAZINGILY examples of really bad driving. What the worst you have ever seen?
My worst was in Sidab – a man without a seat belt was driving and on each knee he had a baby child of about 2 years – if he had been hit by another car or had to break quickly the babies would have been flying though the windscreen of the car. So many accidents happen in Sidab as it’s a narrow road with lots of parked cars and exits and entrances – I wonder what he was thinking about?

So that’s mine – whats the worst example of driving you have seen?

I've lost count, every time I go out I see some lunatic behind the wheel doing crazy things. Last night I was almost in a head on collision with a car that swerved in front of my car to go down a side road in a wild race to get home in time for Iftar.

What really gets me is the " Jet Car Tailgater "....these guys come zooming up behind you like a bat out of hell and stay a few inches away from your rear bumper edging closer to try to force you over into a lane that is already packed with cars and is not safe to enter.

Same here.. Ihate it when people have their kids sitting on their knees while driving.. and when ur kids stick their heads and hands out of the window.. oh thats horrible !

The problem is that there are SO MANY EXAMPLES...

Woman this morning vut me up on the roundabout just before Intercon bridge... it was amazing, she came from the inside lane of the roundabout sped up and just cut in, no indication, no looking, she just went.... truly the rudest and most ignorant part about driving in Oman is the women drivers who just drive....

also those women that can hardly see across the top of the steering wheel and then wear a full black out veil including large glasses and gloves.... that cannot be good for safety, surely!

accidents in Oman usually involve at least one of the following:

TAXI
LEARNER DRIVER
BAIZA BUS
WOMAN
COMMERCIAL VEHICLE

did you know that nearly 80% of all accidents in OMAN are HEAD ON COLLISIONS... thats why i bought my wife the FORD EXPEDITION... only vehicle in Oman that is DOUBLE 5 STAR rated for safety in a head on collision..

Heard it in the news last night that the cops in UAE booked about 1400+ cases of traffic offences and reckless driving in just one week !! They're coming down real hard on the offenders which is good news and I hope they have a similar campaign in Oman too.

They should do this in Oman... I don't even know if they have proper traffic police... and why, oh why when people are pulled over do they always shake the police mans hand!!

ppl on their cell phones ... u can spot them a mile away ..the car sways from side to side ...i hope they realize that not only r they putting their life in danger but also the lives of other ppl on the round ...

on a more serious note ...how about those nose picking drivers ..the most horrid sight ever eh lol

examples of Omani drivers:
1- kid standing in the middle..
2- kid on lap while driving
3- cutting lanes
4- over taking from the hard sholder (past yellow line from right side)
5- turning without signal
6- speeding
7- doing all the above at the same time

and trillion more other sickening benaviour but worst is
TAIL GATING. sticking up your $$$ like there is a devil up HIS/HER.

now that a typical day on Omani roads...

Compared to Qatar, Oman looks like an oasis of angelic drivers. Tail gating in Qatar is normal thing, but I have solution for them. I have Omani plate numbers, and when one of these kids driving land cruisers tail gate me, I just touch the break pad, without actually breaking, just illuminate the red brake lights, sending him into a frantic full brake.

The above is not the most annoying, the most annoying is this. You may find it bizarre, it amazed me the entire first three months, where I had three accident.

For starters, round about are not designed the way they are designed in Oman. In Oman you always have a gentle “Angle of Attack” on the round about, meaning, as you approach the round about, there will always be a gentle curve to the right, thus reducing the traffic path angle between the traffic in the round about, and the traffic of cars entering and exiting the round about. In Qatar, the angle is almost perpendicular. Thus most people will tend to move to the right a wee bit to reduce the angle of attack, thus encroaching on the middle lane. To make it more fun, there are no lines on the round about to mark the lanes, it’s a free for all jamboree.

When people wait at the round about, the never wait before the line that separate the round about from the road, they go all the way to the middle of the round about, then stop. This makes using the left most lane in the round about impossible for left most lane users, hence they move to the middle lane, the middle lane users move the fast lane. You end up having the motorist equivalent of elbowing.

You know what I can't stand, is when these teenieboppers with their new licenses zoom past you thinking that they own the road. Then they cut in front of you.
When they get a ticket, they have daddy wipe it from their record!

I mean firstly where i live in the UK everyone owns bikes, and its like there are more bikes on the roads than cars hhehehe well not really but i much prefer to drive in oman...the roads in the UK seem really scarey!!!

The worst example I saw was a man driving a BMW (must have been automatic), because he had his baby cradled in the arm nearest the window. Completely oblivious to the danger he was putting himself, the baby and the rest of the road users in.

Worst example happened to me last night.



I was following an F-150 on a two-way street, with double yellow lines dividing it. Meaning you cannot make a U-turn on the road. Anyway, at a 4-way intersection the F-150 slows and makes a right turn into the other street and goes in. I drive past. I had barely gone past him with the dipsh*t makes a U-turn there (on the road he just turned into) and COMES RIGHT AT ME ON MY PASSENGER SIDE. I had to swerve to avoid him - I braked, skidded and ended up on the other side. I mean HELLO didn't you LOOK to see if there were any cars behind you?! Plus it was night and I had my headlights on! What a retard! Luckily, it is a low traffic road and there weren't any cars coming from the opposite direction. If I hadn't swerved, he would have certainly run into me. Seriously - what a stupid moron. I was so pissed. I honked at him and gave him the finger. I had half a mind to get out and yell at the dumb sh*t.

I am interested to hear why some cyclists (usually of Indian origin) insist on riding their bicycles towards oncoming traffic?

I have come across this many times, especially on the Bausher Road where you are driving along and see Mr. Kamikaze peddling furiously towards you! It's even worse at night - hellooooooo, lights aren't that expensive for a bicycle are they??

Im a new member to this site... and this is my first post.....

...Since i have started driving in Oman...... i've always faced problems with these taxis.. let them them vans or salon cars... they drive without a care for the car around them......

luckily i never got into an accident.... i just dont understand how they get their lisence......

These taxis are a threat for the public than convinience.....
and ofcourse....

how could i forget the matter... of being followed around by jobless people.....

what i really hate is when u're driving in the fast lanes and some cuts the lane infront of you and drives really slow that he's not overtaking!!!! WHAT MADE HIM GO TO THE FAST LANE THEN!!!!

and others who turn a turning without indication light and u keep waiting for a chance to get out of the turning. WHAT DIDN'T THEY KNOW THEY HAVE INDICATION LIGHTS ON THEIR CAR!...
