I keep reading differing reports on whether it is possible to bring duty free alcohol into Oman (from uk via Dubai). Can anyone tell me if this is permitted?
Thanks

I have always brought wine into Oman. My understanding is that, as a foreigner, I am allowed to bring two bottles into Oman when I enter customs.
I'm not sure that is completely correct, but that's what my Omani friends have always told me, and thus far..... it has worked.

Never did it cause am muslim and scared to go into some trouble but as my omani friends told me, they don't make problems if you are foreigner, specially Germans who are the majority of tourists.

One litre (i.e., 2 bottles) per passenger is permitted except during Ramadan when you're not allowed to carry them.

no, you have to be 21 in Oman because this is where you are bringing it into...
also, inbound duty free is still open during Ramadan and you can bring in 2 bottles of no more than 2 litres....
cheers!

I would say that you need to know whether it is the "purchase" or the "possesion" of the alcohol which is restricted to 21
If the law says you can't buy alcohol in Oman unless you are 21 then I would think that you would be ok cos the purchase was done in UK. However I am no lawyer so don't get into bother cos of me!

I would think that the law applies to possession, consumption or purchase as it normally does in most countries legal speak in regard to alcohol...
cheers!

There is no restrictions whatsoever .. whenever i travel to Dubai and back I can carry 4bottles of hard liquor .. Whiskey, Rum, Gin ... no problems whatsoever .. I'll be 21 only in a few days from now and I've carried this much almost everytime I've traveled <img src="/threads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" /> .. never had any problems .. only never purchased alchohol in the Udty free in Oman ... but carried it into Oman and out of Oman just fine ... and it depends on the country you're entering for alchohol limits .. not your departure country...
so if Oman doesn't allow something.. then thats what you've got to be looking at... Purchase .. consumption and possesion are totally seperate from each other in most countries actually ... but in some countries like muslim countries they're mostly combined
