Washington, February 13: North Korea, with its long-range missiles, has the capability to target North America, a top US intelligence official has warned and said Pyongyang's "open" pursuit of nuclear weapons was one of the "most serious" challenges to Washington.
The Taepo Dong 2 (TD-2) missile could target part of the US with a nuclear weapon-sized payload in the two-stage configuration and has the range to target all of North America if a third stage was used, Director of the Defence Intelligence Agency Vice Admiral Lowell E Jacoby told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
Pyongyang's chronic proliferation activities are troubling and are an indication that it would be willing to market nuclear weapons in the future, he alleged.
CIA Director George J Tenet endorsed Jacoby's view's and said North Korea has an untested ballistic missile capable of reaching targets in North America.

Not to denegrate your post, but in my view, any reasonable thinking human being would've figured that out a long time ago. Just think "China" and you'll immediately know what I mean.

There's been a review of their technical capability. They have an untested missile that could POSSIBLY strike the west coast of the United States.
So, let's say they have two nukes. They may or may not accurately strike somewhere on the west coast. Say, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles or San Diego.
Now, also assume, that we have the ability to shoot 2 missiles out of the sky due to our advances against Russian missiles, which are far better then either the Chinese or possible double dong missile the NKoreans have.
Since North Korea would have launched a nuke against us (whether it landed or not), we then have the right to launch a nuke on them. Who do you think can most accurately launch and repel those missiles? I would say us.
Not including the fact, we could have launch and landing within 15 minutes.
Ouch.

UG,
I was emphasising the point that SOMEBODY dared as small and developing as N Korea, but added with time such darings against America would increase and think of "old Europe" and russia and China pointing their nuclear loaded missiles at America.
Think if the Americans can start pissing in their own pants with this N Korea threats, what would happen if all these contries pool their sterngth against it. It would not then be a matter of a few missiles reaching its coast, but a whole range of possibilities and all the cities perfectly aimed and hit.
AND THE TRENDS FOR SUCH AN EVENTUALITY DOES NOT SEEM FAR AWAY!!

I don't see Americans pissing their pants just yet.
The USN's SSBNs all by themselves are able to annihilate any and all aggressors. If a country, or countries, wish to attack the US with nuclear weapons there would be an overwhelming response, making any such attack suicidal. As we all know, it is virtually impossible to deter an attacker that does not mind being killed in the process of attacking. Such is the world we live - and very well could die - in.

I doubt that USN's SSBNs all by themselves can annihilate any and all aggressed, as America could do nothing on Sept 11 to ward of the attack.
More over, all these system have not shown much practical utility as yet and can get failed as Columbia space shuttle did, inspite of the best possible human intelligence behind it.

Sorry, I thought we were discussing a possible nuclear attack on the US. If half of the SSBN fleet is at sea at any given time, over 1,100 nuclear warheads can be launched in retaliation for any nuclear attack on the US.
As regards North Korea, there is no reason for the US to deal with them unilaterally. You will probably be aware that Japan threatened to take preemptive action against NK if the siuation warrants.

AlQaeda leaders should focus now on how to motivate North Korea to carryout this act. Sooner they deal with the the better it is.

You would like to see the leaders of NK launch a nuclear attack on the US so that the NK population would be destroyed. You have some anger issues you need to deal with.

US cant afford to launch any missles on N-Korea and that is why its putting up with it. All the US strategic interests of the US lie around that region. IF the US launches on single long range missle then that surely would be the end of this world. N-Korean leaders know that.
The world has had enough of the US hegmony. I wont be surprised if the US is attacked from all sides by AlQaeda, by Iraq, by the Europeans, by the Koreans, by the chinese and by the Russians. The day appears to be near when everybody decides to finish the evil forever and move forward.

I thought we were discussing the nuclear threat posed by NK and its allies to the US. In any event you have a very simplistic world view. The Chinese and the Russians between them would have killed 20 or 30 million, maybe more, of their on people in the name of Communism. This dwarfs any of the supposed evils the US has been up to.

"Yes Muj...then we can install KHILAFAH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Kill the infidel."
Okay take your medication and slowly back away from the computer.
The U.S posses enough nuclear weapons to retaliate to such an attack. But let's be honest. All your left with is a burned out hulk of a planet. Nuclear weapons fail in their purpose once they are used.
note: exclude historical examples of Hiroshima and Nagasaki due to the fact that it predates the current doctrine of the purpose of nuclear arms.

Muj,
America is a country just like any other county. It is people like you who give good muslims a bad name. Medication
is indeed warranted by your above obvious anger issues. Nuclear war is a deterrant and any country that has the technology knows this. That is the main reason the entire cold war between USA and Russia they were never used. We know what the outcome would be.
We should be talking about ways to foster peace and learn to live together with our differences. The only reason the Bin Laden got away with 911 was the cowardness of the actions themselves. On the subject of North Korea and nuclear weapons please. They may be developing them but I expect nothing to come of it except maybe blowing themselves up. Why on earth would anyone still be trying to develop them. We may have them but the cold war is way over. There is very few communist countries left mainly China and North Korea.

Omega whatever.. AMerica is the only country that has actually gone beyond having the nukes just as a deterrent. They have actually used it on people. They have killed millions using those nukes and they are talking about using the nukes again in Iraq. You think the entire humanity will forgive them. No.. Such things are remembered for generations and if the present generation is too weak and unresourseful to take revenge then revenge is taken by the offsprings of those who suffered.
And how the hell am I giving muslims a bad name ??? What have I said here that Jaques Chirac of France hasnt said..? He isnt a muslim.. Now you would say people like the Chirac give french a bad name..

What did you say? Look above at what you said. This is the exact kind of racism alot of people myself included strive to erase from the world. Yes indeed you give good muslims a bad name. Any good muslim who listens to the teaching knows peace is the answer not terrorism. These types of acts you speak of hoping to be carried out are ungodly.
Also lets look at the facts. Yes America did use the nuclear weapon twice. Millions also were not killed. I just love when people try and make things up or overinflate the truth. There is not one cent of truth about America dealing with Iraq through Nuclear means. That is an utter complete falsehood my friend. If and when it happens it will be through conventional means. A nuclear weapon has not been used since Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
