- The fact that every where I go in Muscat is a trip of its own, and end up spending vast amount of money on gas

- The fact that when watching a movie you would always find a moron with his cell phone switched on

- The fact that most of the things in our beloved country goes with WASTA

- The fact that there arent enough variety in this country and forces us to go to dubai to get it

- The fact that Muscat Festival was such a flop, I felt embarrased infront of all my friends who came here for such event

I haven't come across a single demonstration against anything while I was in Oman!! The people around me used to whisper to me all the time, "Dude, don't talk ANYTHING at all about the Sultan and what he has done" ... you'll be persecuted!! whoa, that's news!!

Agree 100% and want to add... those annoying people who park in the disabled parking and are not disabled (makes me want to scratch their cars from hood to trunk)... or those who take up double parking spaces... or those who leave their cars running and blocking your own.... GRRRR

Join the club Mary, feelings are mutual.

As for what Hubi said, all I can say is that after living abroad for several years, Oman is the easiest place to live in even with it's flaws. You wont appreciate it until you face the reality of hardship in other countries.

Oman has many things that Dubai doesnt have. Try to look at things on the bright side. Our country is so beautiful, so clean, so peaceful, so easy to live in, ppl are generally pleasant, and it's so amazing in it's own special ways. Never measure life with the things you dont have, measure it with the things you have.

As for those ppl who park in disabled parking spots, I sometimes just want to smash their cars when they think they're above the law.

what do you mean by spending a lot of money on gas in muscat?

are u cribbing that muscat is a spread out place?

with the gas prices in Muscat, you cannot claim to be splurging.......petrol prices in India are now atleast 3 times more.

I am aware that UK prices are also very high.

Yes of course, you may not realise it. But check your car millage and you will be suprised how much travelling a person does in Muscat in a single day.

- The fact that its near to impossible to get along with life without having a loan of some sort

- The fact an Omani male is not allowed to marry other than an Omani female, not following this rule, he losses his passport and even get deported

- The fact that your own brother may have an Omani passport but you may not have it

More to come....

You are absolutely right Hubi, the list goes on and on...... the funny thing is we just keep quit and pretend everything is ok, most of the people get scared just TALKING let alone taking measures into their own hands.

Koji!!! You're right on track mate!

That's just what I said a little while earlier ... and even have been noticing. Once a member agrees to Oman having such issues, it then boils down to "still you know, Oman is a much better place"!! My oh my!

Oh well.. hmm.. there are things we dont like in muscat.. lots of things ... but name a place.. which is 100% cool. .and lets us do what we want? complaining 'bout the spread nature of oman.. compare it to the distances people travel in US and UK.
sounds like hubi has some very personal bad experiences.. but then hubi.. oman has not and is not advancing into the 21st century with the speed a developing country needs too.. you cant blame them as long as the ideology remains the same.. .. hopefully the new generation of highly educated people will make the difference

You think life is expensive in Oman?

In Uk, a 1.6 litre engine needs £40 to fill up the tank for gas.

Imagine filling your tank with over RO 24 everytime your tank is empty.

Imagine getting taxed upto 40% of your annual income.

Imagine paying about £110/year just to have a TV license.

Imagine paying over £1,000 for council tax.

Imagine paying ridiculous amounts on car insurance

Imagine paying over £300 road tax.

Imagine....imagine ... imagine....

It can be far much worse.

Now stop comparing Oman with UK will ya? Every country has its own +s and -s ... think of ways to improve them, rather than being satisfied by them!

You can only appreciate what you have when make a comparison analysis. Of course every country has it's pros and cons, but I still think Oman is such an easy place to live in and survive in comparison to the states or UK.

Omanis appreciates their Country when they travel abroad or live abroad like what Inv., said and foreigners who live in Oman appreciates life they had in Oman when they are not in Oman anymore and that particular times remains in their memories forever. (This is not my words, but expatriates themselves). Not a single person that I work with and worked in Oman says otherwise!

I am an Omani working abroad and it takes me 2 hours to cover 12 miles and in Oman surely it will take me 12 minutes!!

Oman is paradise for those who appreciates life and appreciates what they have!
