Disconnect the phone or pay up because you have nothing better to do because of the dearth of other communication companies that could challenge Omatel!

Lubna,
Tell us something new will ya, I am sure there are zillion who had this experience one way or another. And that is why we need a new provider.

The best thing for you all in Oman to do is ... write up to all the famous newspapers and magazines ... arabic and english.
Contact the ministry of communication (or whatever it is called). Let it know about what is happening and how their customer service is, in the first place. Get a good write up about how having only one communication giant is actually bad for the whole nation in the sense of development. Introduction of another service provider will add to the competition and a new level of efficiency will be maintained!
Go, good luck ... Lubna, since you're affected by it as many others are ... you should take up the initiative and give a kick start! I bet other valuable members of Omanforum will join you

Even if a million people went to complain about it, no one would do anything to help prevent this same thing from happening to every other customer! I MEAN HELLOOOO ITS OMAN!!!!!!!

We all expect alot of services from Omantel and those services come a little too late always, the problem is omantel is not very open with their ongoing projects and stuff, and they promise stuff that never comes soon.. i guess the talk of ADSL has been in the air for quite some time now.. and Omantel made a bang of an announcement last COMEX that they'd be launching it in June/July of last year... okay.. give 'em another a few months due to technical glitches.. but we are fast approaching the next COMEX and hello.. where's ADSL still under testing.. and what do they have in store for this comex .. satellite link up ? :P mm.. and as for the billing.. theyv'e hired a company from india called TCS i think they are working with imtac .. and are almost at the tad end of finishing the billing project.. so hopefully we wont see anymore billing problems in a few years time ... ps : i heard omantel is launching mms soon.. great news for me.. when i dont even have sms on my hayak :P

Ofcourse there will be delays
any service will need technichians to run it( I believe) those ppl get trained for some months b4 they are capeable of dealing with costumers and any problems that may arise.
I dont think Omantel is doing well to attract costumers .
cosutmer satisfaction comes 2nd always.
hope they are improving thu.

You all know what Morbid meant by THIS IS OMAN!! It just plainly means, if you voice an opinion ... you'll have grand-kids before a decision is made! Now, don't shout at me 'coz it is your country, but you know it is true!
After all ... a country having only one service provider like OmanTel is bound to fall into problems!
No privatization allowed or what?

well.. ghetto.. even if the telecom sector were to open up in muscat.. i doubt many companies would be interested to set shop here... coz of the size of the customer base.
plus.. Omantel themselves wudnt want that to happen for reasons of "National Security"
Come on when a place like dubai.. is still monopolized by Etisalat with a ever increasing customer base.. we dont expect the sector to be privatized.. but we want it to improve

Guys! privatization is in the process. It's a long procedure, it better take long than just result in a disaster.

I sent a mail to the Omantel customer service division, some 2 months ago. No answer yet.
It took 4 days before somebody picked up the phone on one of their service numbers.
Their net page says the online ordering will be ready in October 2002.
On average, I receive my bills every second or third month. They force me to queue for bills and payments, even though I have net bank, and prefer to pay my bills that way.
The shut down my house phone, without warning, and without having sent me one single bill.
I think the heading the initial poster gave this tread, sums it up quite nicely.

I've been reading the daily column at www.thehotbutton.com for the past three years. All of a sudden a couple of months ago the site disappeared. I thought that maybe the site was closed by the owners, but then when I was in Malaysia last month I tried it and it worked fine. I came back to Oman and tried again. I kept getting a TCP_ERROR. I emailed Omantel more than once asking them to check why their servers can't located this site. They have never replied or done anything about it.
