First of all, Eid Mubarak everybody. I am sure you all are busy wearing new clothes, preparing yourselves to visit the family, and the kids are happy while they receive the money and all. Whilst I am stuck here on a offshore rig .
Anyway, so what do you normally do today, is it the same for everyone of us, I am sure is the same during morning. But what about evenings. And the second eid, third and maybe the fourth. Share your ideas with us?

Early breakfast with family, then greet the relatives who come visit my parents, big 3idiyehs for my little cousins, then we hit the roads to visit the elderly relatives to pay our respect, then a big lunch feast at my grandmother's house (every member in the family will bring a dish), the little kids get new crispy notes, and the olders ones exchange gifts (perfumes, fabrics, little ornaments), we hang out till about 5pm, then my cousins and I plan to go for dinner some place and socialize some more. 2nd day, more visits in the morning, and 3rd we do whatever we want unless we're invited elsewhere for lunch/dinner.
Yeah, I know, too much food!

ours is same as Schumi's I guess.
we have a rotation kinda thing going on in my family. my dad and his brothers are 9 all together. they split them selves into the tow eids. 4 handle 3eed ilfi6r and the other four handle 3eed ila'97a. so one will handle the 3ursiya day.. where the entire family meets and have 3ursiya willathee minoh at his house. then in the evening we all split our selves into groups and go wherever we wana go..Second day is Mashakeek at another uncles house... Third day is Shewaa2 at the third uncle. Fourth days is a trip to some where. and then they rotate.. whoever did 3ersiya will do mashakeek the next year and shewa the year after. and so forth

Hehe, no Jinan, the main feast is on the first day. The other days we take it easy - by the 2nd day we just want a light meal if you know what I mean.

Weird !!..this Eid is specifically called Eid Al-Adha coz we Muslims have to Sacrifice[/color] (if our economical status permit us to do so) an animal to share our own possessions with other fellow humans who r not capable and poor.....Somehow this critical event was left out from all the above posts!!

do u do that on ur own VANQUISH, or someone else does it for u?
Invincible
16th February 2003, 01:06 AM
What you mentioned Vanquish is mandatory for every Muslim. I know my family does. My grandmother collects money from each family member as a contribution for the poor, and she handles it and gives it to those who are in need. I give my dad money to do the dhabee7eh for me.
These are basic stuff that isnt necessary to boast about and I dont think Neo meant something else.

Special, yeah I participate in the process.
Invincible, it got nothing to do with boasting!!...why don't u reread all the members inputs from a western perspective and presume u aren't Muslim....after u r done u'd come to conclude that all what Muslims do in Eid is EAT and EAT and EAT!!...aha I know it is basic stuff to us (Muslims), thats why I said "...this critical event was left out..."..However, it isn't basic stuff for a westerner!...this forum is accessible world wide so the event had to be a bit cleared out.

I agree with you. and may I say its good u picked it up.
all the replies were same stream its about Eating and some talked about visiting.
I think its because most ppl in muscat do not have a space to sacrifice and so they just send the money to someone to do the job for them. which is not wrong... nevertheless wroth mentioning
I doubt ladies are intrstd either in dhabee7ah smthn about crulity to animal to "cant see blood I faint". which is not a bad thing but explains why they may have overlooked it.
again its about a typical Eid day.

Vanquish,
Thanks for clarifying. I have to agree with you, and apologize for misunderstanding you. I just thought/felt that you were disgusted at our replies. You are very right though, from a westerner's perspective, the replies here wouldnt say much about our rituals. I guess we should always keep in mind that Non-muslims/foreigners access this forum too and its important to cover everything when we discuss things especially when it comes down to religion and traditions.
On a lighter note, how many guys here actually do the dhabee7eh? I personally couldnt and wouldnt. Is it not right to pay for a goat and have it sorted out for me?

i think mine is similar to invicible's... except that i do not extend the visits to 3rd, 4th day of 3eed... i normally prefer to stay home and rest after the za7ma of 1st 3eed...lol... unless if i noticed there were so many people coming to our house to visit then i'd rather prefer to go the pictures...

I for one didnt FEEL IT ALL. To feel the Eid, is to be able to visit the family in the first day and of course to wear new clothers and expensive perfume. I missed those two main ingerdients of what makes an Eid. So for me, Eid AlAdha didnt exist this year anyway
