hi members!
What do you think about smoking sheesha. because many have argued that smoking sheesha is less harmful than smoking a cigarette. Well i have personally done an experiment to see the effect of Cig smoke on tissue paper and Sheesha smoke on the tissue paper. Cig smoke left a very dark reddish spot on the tissue while sheesha hardly left any spot.
but hey thats just my own simple experiment. what is the truth behind all this?

well my friend's father is a doctor and he said that smoking sheesha is like smoking 5 cigs.
Incubus1980
15th March 2003, 03:18 AM
but did you ever thing that he is saying that because he doesn't want his son to take up smoking <img src="/threads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
well the sheesha tobacco only have .5% Nicotine and 0% Tar
Nictoine...addictive.....Tar...burns your lungs.
so keeping that mind....how can sheesha bhe more bad for your health when it has no Tar in it. on the other hand....Cig. smoke has both nicotine and Tar and not to mention all the chemicals they put in it.

Incubus 1980
Your little napkin experiment is not a scientific proof of lack of tar or nicotine from Sheesha.
Sheesha uses flavored tobacco. Sheesha does not have a normal filter, and depend on the water pot for filtration. The amount of nicotine and tar in sheesha is actually higher, since the tobacco being used is not processed to remove the two elements. Nicotine causes addiction, and tar damages the lungs. The reason why there are not many publications about the subject is because Sheesha is predominantly used in third word countries, and these countries spend little if nil on health care RD.
Go to tobacco.org and make a search for "Hubble bubble"; and you will get reference to an article on the Bahrain tribune on 25-12-2000.
Few years a go I read an article in the Sharq Awsat about a research conducted in Saudi Arabia, which showed that one session of Sheesha or Hubble Bubble is equivalent to smoking 20 Marlboro reds. The misconception about the effects of the water filter are as such, misconceptions. The basic elements are all the same, the extra disadvantages of Sheesha is that the charcoal used to light up the tip gives off Carbon monoxide, added to the fact that the average Mouassal weighs about 100 grams, and that other "flavoring" ingredient are added, the effects of which is not yet known. These flavours are mixed with sosort of animal glue and resins, the combined effects are absolutely letahl.
What you are doing by smoking these things, be it sheesha or cigarettes is that you are edging yourself closer to a very painful death. It's a matter of time, before you die of bronchitis, what the sheesha does, is simply accelerate your death.
You said that you study in the US, which makes you a university student, which means you are smart enough to get there, you are still young, and at this age you can kick the habit. As you accumulate more addictive and carcegenous elements in your body, your chances of succeeding in kicking this dreadful habit are getting smaller, and chances of getting cancers and heart problems are getting bigger, a day will come when you will dread every puff you made in your life, and wished that you can rewind your life.
I saw people die of bronchitis, and I still remember the doctor's word in the SQU ICU when he told me that the poor man is dying very slowly, and very painfully of bronchitis. His lungs are ravaged with cancer, and he was unable to cough the mucus that was building up is his lungs, thus he was in a middle of an excruciating pain path to his ultimate death two weeks later.
Sheesha or Cigarettes, the end effects are the same, worst with sheesha.
Invincible
15th March 2003, 11:15 PM
I agree with Kareem. One head of sheesha equals 10 cigarettes. Some ppl get really bad head rushes with Sheesha, and they get really dizzy once they finish the 2nd or 3rd head. Im talking about ppl who smoke sheesha everyday. Sheesha is addictive too.
Incubus1980
15th March 2003, 11:15 PM
Karim i respect your advice....but i never said i smoke sheesha that much to get lung cancer or anything....anyways....you are right abt the carbon monoxide....well you seem to know more about Sheesha....but you see when the smoke comes out of the sheesha pipe its very moist just because it has gone through water which adds moisture to the smoke....thus you don't feel the throat burn when you smoke a cigarette. so as a result the smoke strength is less than that of a cigarette smoke.
and yeah Sheesha Molasses doesn't contain any tar. read the label when you make sheesha next time. and if you have never made sheesha....take it from me....it doesn't have any tar in it.
i would still rank Sheesha below Cigarette in terms of danger to health.
but thanks for the info. Karim....much appreciated <img src="/threads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Why put your health at risk?

Incubus,
Based on a study I read in the past. Sheesha can cause throat and lip cancer and also may build up poisonous gases in the stomach which can lead to heart disease and brain stroke.

Invinci i am sorry to say but you are wrong Sheesha is not addictive as addictive as cigarettes. i have gone without smoking sheesha for a whole year. and right now i am not smoking at all. and its not that i had to take tobacco patches or anything. i just dont smoke.
Second ppl don't have enough time to smoke three heads of sheesha....if they do well they are just retarded and have nothing better to do in life. a single head of sheesha take around 1 and half hour to finish givin the size of the pot.
honestly i use to smoke sheesha like crazy sometimes 4 times in a day. but after sometime you get sick of it...unlike cigarettes where you don't get tired of smoking 'em.
well as <b>Karim</b> said about that link...i couldn't find any actual facts on the harms of smoking sheesha.
smoking Hukka is more harmful than smoking sheesha, though they both look the same but they are not. Hukka has no artifcial flavour its just pure tobacco, which makes it more harmful to your health. but Sheesha there is very little amount of tobacco in it plus there is no <b>Tar</b> in it unlike cigarettes.
<i>unless someone can provide me with proper facts i believe smoking sheesha is less harmful than cigarettes.<i>

You can only speak for yourself. Many research studies claim that smoking is a mental addiction, not a physical addiction anyhow.

Incubus, there are loads of ppl who smoke more than one head of sheesha. Ppl go to coffee shops in Oman and spend endless hours doing sheesha.
Another thing, if smoking doesnt affect your stomach, how come smokers suffer from stomach ulcers? how come doctors ask smokers not to smoke or to reduce smoking to patients who have stomach ulcers? because smoking reduces the healing process of ulcers.
Ppl also suffer from terrible sore throats when smoking sheesha, if it's as kind as cigarettes or more kind, then how come ppl get bigger head rushes from smoking sheesha?

<b>"Sheesha" water pipe smoke contains small amounts of nicotine but is rich in carbon monoxide; the blood carboxyhaemoglobin concentration in sheesha smokers is higher than in cigarette smokers (Zahran et al.,1985).</b>

Carboxyheamoglobin levels indicates the carbon monoxide poisoning levels in your blood. Basically, non smokers would have lower levels of carboxyheamoglobin than those who smoke.
Another thing Incubus, I dont waste my time writing things from the top of my head. It's upto you if you want to deny these facts which were concluded by health experts.

I agree with love wonderer, smoking borders on the most stupid thing a human can do. Its plain stupid. Having said that, I always try to reach out for those who took the wrong path.
I feel really sorry for what you do with your health dear Incubus. Your body is not yours to abuse, you will be judged by supreme judge on what you did with your lungs and body. Talk to any doctor, any nurse, any reasonable person, and he will tell you, inhaling any thing that is burnt is bad to your health, degrees of effects vary, but the end effects are the same. Sheesha is far far more toxic than cigarrets. Lack of published research and data about the effects of sheesha does not mean it is not harmfull. 40 years ago, doctors used to prescribe smoking to patients with headaces, but now they know better.
The bottom line is, its plain stupid to pay money to get lung cancer, because you will get lung cancer if you continou smoking, I am just a humble engineer, talk to any doctor, you are in the states, take the stuff and ask a doctor, tell him that I smike this stuff through a water pipe, will it cause cancer, 100 out of 100 doctors will say yes.

The only cure for smoking is CANCER!
Invincible
18th March 2003, 09:15 AM
Wrong Vanquish,
The only cure for smoking is to quit it through will power. A relative of mine who had surgery for one of their lungs in a German hospital said to me that loads of smokers who had lung cancer had to have one of their lungs removed, and the irony of it all is that after the surgery, they were found sitting outside in the garden smoking their cigarettes. Sometimes cancer isnt a convincing reason for these ppl to quit. It's will power.
Allen Carr's program has helped many ppl quit smoking simply by convincing their minds, no patches, nothing at all. For those who want to quit smoking, check out his website. It's an excellent site that's pretty moving for smokers and non-smokers. It's really worth checking out.
Click here <a href="http://www.allencarrseasyway.com/" target="_blank">Easy way to quit smoking</a> then click on the free intro. He just asks 20 close ended questions and does not say anything about how bad smoking is e.g. health risks etc and it's pretty shocking how the answers are the total opposite of what smokers would think is the truth of smoking.
My friend who was a chain smoker (smoking upto 40 cigs a day) for over 12 years quit immediately after attending ONLY one session of Allen Carr's program. Another elderly woman who was a smoker for over 20 years quit now for over 3 years. Allen Carr himself was a smoker for over 30 years and he started this program. He's been so successful that his clinics are in over 18 countries. He believes that the tobacco industry fooled everyone all at the same time and as we all know Lincoln said 'You cant fool all the people all the time'.
It's interesting to check out his website especially for those who are fighting to quit smoking. It's all in the mind as he Carr explains.
Incubus1980
18th March 2003, 10:42 AM
well actually its really not in the mind.....ofcourse you do need will power to commite....but Nicotine has a physical addiction. and once you get addicted you smoke cigarette to satisfy your nicotine level in your blood. well they only way you can stop smoking is if you take the good nictoine patches. but they cost too much....i don't think i can afford them. well even if i save all the money i spend on cigarettes i still won't be able to continue buying the patches.
Invincible
18th March 2003, 01:05 PM
Incubus,
Open up your mind a little, and check out the website, and then tell me your opinion. You have to try different things. Patches has been the biggest failure in history! Some smokers faint from patches.

the continue of what i wrote yesterday .
1. Bring one red watermelon and clean it.
2. Then cut it to half#8217;s.
3. Take one of the half#8217;s and remove the red watermelon and keep the skin (scale) of the watermelon (it will be like hole).
4. After that put 400 g of honey inside the watermelon. (Which you make it like hole).
5. Then keep it in oven in 150degrees centigrade for 20 minute.
6. When the time off, pull it from the oven and keep it out until it become cold.
7. Finally, keep it in refrigerator (down).
Note:
Take one tablespoon every day for a week. I hope you feel that you do not want to smoke at all.
Source from one of the book#8217;s I read it. This book called women diseases and medication with grassed and the writer name is inas hashima. This recipe in page 12.

I hear Zaghloul is really strong.
InQ,
I dont know what it is. It doesnt always happen. I doubt it has anything to do with my lungs though. Maybe its just a sign that smoking is bad for your health! <img src="/threads/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

People are still affected whether u inhale the smoke or not. Have you heard of secondary smoking? I mean a person can end up with lung cancer and they have never smoked in their life...and they get it from being around people who smoke all the time!
You don't inhale shisha smoke the way you do with cigarettes

You must be kidding Chitchi. Lots of people inhale it just like cigarettes. Those who shayesh and lots of smoke come out like dragon fire are those who inhale. The lungs have a higher capacity to keep smoke in than the mouth does. Anyhow, I dont know how sheesha is meant to be smoked. It would be far much healthier if they smoke it like cigars (not inhaling).
SHisha is <i>meant</i> to be smoked like cigars though, no? You can still get the shisha buzz if you exhale from your nose without inhaling it like cigarettes.

well i have never known anyone who said Sheesha "stinks" well anyways..You are suppose to inhale the Sheesha smoke. well if you don't you are at higher risk of getting Ulcer or whatever Cancer in your mouth because you keep the smoke in your mouth instead of taking it into your lungs. and plus Sheesha makes alot of smoke so you really can't keep it inside your mouth. Thats just a waste of the Sheesha Smoke. I frankly can't imagine someone just puffin the sheesha smoke like Cigar.
Thats not what I meant. It is impossible to keep shisha smoke in your mouth because there is so much of it. It is bound to go into your lungs. But you are not meant to take it in deep and keep it there for a while before you blow it out, like cigarettes.

btw, if inhaling it causes lung cancer, then keeping it in mouth then blowing it causes mouth cancer.. or something like that..
and sheesha is meant to be smoked like cigerettes..

no not really...you are not suppose the keep the sheesha smoke inside your lungs for long......its not fun anymore and plus it effects your lung more....I like to see whole load of smoke coming out of my mouth.

Incubus, I beg you not to give any kind of a ruling on sheesha. Not having data does not mean it is OK. You once said that if you smoke sheesha one way or the other, you get mouth ulcer. Mouth ulcers are visible health deterioration, the invisible ones that happen in your lungs and heart, are relegated to the backseat.
Krazycat, incubus, and others, what you do with your health is not cool, healthy, or OK. To start with, it`s dumb. Smokers, be it cigaretts, sigars, pipes, sheesha, or whatever crap it is, smell bad, they have bad teeth, bad breath, cant run a kilometer without panting and gasping, have lower sexual stamina, suffer from headaches, have to cough out wired stuff every morning when they wake up, their hands and cloths stink, their skin is bad, they are despised by society at large. Why on earth you guys want to be one of them?

because we don't live for the society but for ourselves. and hey i haven't smoked sheesha for like a month now, even though its still sitting right infront of me. but hey once in a a while is all okay. you can take a shower or brush your teeth to get rid of the smell. not a big deal, well yeah lower Sexual stamina i'll have to agree on that it does effect a little bit but not enough to give your pre-mature ejaculation <img src="/threads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
