Contrary to popular belief, sex toys are not new and have been around for more than 2,000 years. Many of them will be displayed at the world's largest sex show, Erotica, this weekend at London's Olympia.
350 B.C.: The first known use of olive oil as a lubricant.

1869: The year the world's first vibrator was developed by Dr. George Taylor to treat "female hysteria."
1899: The year when America's first advertisement for a battery-operated vibrator appeared in McClure's magazine. It was advertised as a cure for headaches, wrinkles and nerve pain with handy attachments for "those sensitive areas."
80,000: The number of visitors that showed up at the 2005 show. More are expected this year.
6: The total number of "Sex And The City" seasons. Lead character Carrie Bradshaw and her circle of friends are credited with having helped change attitudes among young people towards sex. The television show, set in New York, started in 1998 and ended in 2004.
4.2 million: The number of pornographic Web sites on the Internet, featuring 372 million porn pages and handling 68 million search requests per day.
$60 billion: The estimated value of the global erotic market.
