Today in the paper I noticed that the Ministry of Tourism is running a competition to get people to submit photo's of Oman for use in promoting the country.
RO 1000 first prize.
So, the question is, which OF member is going to win it?!![]()

I'm just confused by that bit that says you need to have a high dpi picture on a CD.. my camera saves the pictures in various resolutions but not dpi.
dots per inch - its not a standard as far as I know, it's just probably better to read that as "high resolution". But I'm not a photographer, so perhaps I'm wrong....

The ministry is specifying the dpi as they are planning to use the photographs later in their various promotions which might include printing of brochures etc.
BTW be careful of what you photograph. There was a case recently of a Pakistani guy in UAE who was taking photographs to participate in a photography competition and inadvertently took some photographs of one of harbours which also had some defence installations/ships etc. Got jailed for a couple of days & they confiscated his camera worth USD 4,000 too. You can read all about this in the Arabian Business website ( http://www.arabianbusiness.com/58182...es-4000-camera ).

Greatness inspires envy, envy engenders spite, spite spawns lies.
dpi is not a measurement of resolution. dpi is how many dots of colour information is stored in an inch of the image. The more the better obviously. This has little to do with on screen viewing of the image, but more to do with printing.
Two images with same resolution can have completely different dpi.
This is required by the competition, because they will use the photos eventually as prints. Most of the cameras will capture the image at 72 dpi, not that is matters for on screen viewing or small prints, but you can manipulate the image in a photo editing program like Photoshop and increase the dpi to suit your needs. You should try to use 300 dpi for fine prints.
I don't have Photoshop.. guess that leaves me out of the running. I know dpi's for printing but if I provided the original picture they could have done the dpi change themselves![]()
Well since it is in the requirements, they will want to get a picture in that condition. Besides, you have to provide the picture(s) as a print if I'm not mistaken and also the digital copy for future printing.
You don't need to have Photoshop, there are lots of free image editing viewer programs that will help. Gimp and perhaps eve IrfanView might be able to save the picture with edited dpi. All the best!
The picture as a print isn't a problem - but am too lazy to go search out free image editors just to do this![]()
LOL!! Ok, just send me your entries by email and I'll send them back to you dpi'd.
Awww, thank you for the offer! I haven't actually looked through what I have to see if there is anything suitable.. but I know where to go if I need my pictures dpi'd!
Guess who is among the winners?![]()

That's a great picture.
I remember the first time I went to the Grand Mosque. I took an absurd number of pictures of those lamps. Something about them just really works with the stone/general architecture.

MUSCAT — Dr Rajha bint Abdulameer bin Ali, Minister of Tourism, passed away at the Royal Hospital yesterday, official sources have informed.
She had been undergoing medical treatment for some time now. By around 8 pm yesterday, she bid adieu to the world, family sources
confirmed.
Dr Rajha had been the Chairperson of Omran, the government organisation to promote tourism in the country. She spared no pain in finding a place for the nation in the world tourism map and her role in getting the various tourism sites accredited by the Unesco as World Heritage Sites has been much acclaimed in the society.
She was instrumental in establishing the Sultanate of Oman Tourism Office in India and also was the force behind the recent road show held in the Indian cities promoting tourism in Oman. She had played a great role in promoting various tourism initiatives including the ministry’s “Beauty Has an Address” campaign. Ever since news of her sad demise was out, people started pouring into the hospital as well as her residence. Several people posted their prayers on her social network portal and it keeps receiving prayers from across the globe.
Dr Rajha has been liked by one and all and all her efforts focused on the development of tourism in the Sultanate, besides taking it across the geographical boundaries. She personally sought participation of various sectors of the society in a number of initiatives of the ministry.
Recently, she wrote on her wall: “I am here to connect more of the questions pertaining to tourism development of the Sultanate and I appreciate everyone's attention to tourism”.
