Also, if your car came with darkened glass and you've applied film on top of it, I advise you to go to the dealership and request a letter which states that the glass came darkened from the factory. It will come useful if you're stopped by the ROP.
Hmm. I bet this is in ruwi/wadi kabir area?

At my recent visit to the VW dealer, I was offered a tint package with the car that includes back AND front tints. When I asked about the front tint being clear, he said no, it IS darkened and it is approved. I mentioned to him about what's happening on the outside now, but he said they are legally offering these tints with no complaints till now. They offer Llumar though which is crappy

Geoshield tinting is in Watayia near Bank Muscat Sayarati Car Loan Branch. Also there is Ziebart tinting
    Anybody has tried Geoshield tints?
    What is the performance?
    It is better than others?
If it is not good which one you recommend?

Not impressed with the Geoshield TSER values. http://www.geoshieldusa.com/autofilms.html

I would recommend Johnson Insulatir instead http://www.johnsonwindowfilms.com/specs/spec_charts_IR.htm

Or 3M Crystalline for the best heat rejection, if cost is not an issue. Pity Huper Optik is gone from Oman.

Is anyone having problems with the Auto-Dimming Rear-view mirrors in your cars after installing the sunfilms?

I had the Auto-dimming feature in the rear-view mirror working properly until I had the V-KOOL films installed. Now,at night the headlights of other cars are blurred and distracting, which I think is due to the sunfilm and auto-dimming feature working in conjunction. Any idea what is to be done? (Other than peeling off the v-kool film)

I was stopped by our law-enforcers at jizzi border (while exiting) and was told to remove the tints as they were too dark. I admantly refused as I had ensured that the film was not more than 35% while getting it installed and I had paid good money for it. After some argument, the policeman got a light/tint reader from his car, fit it on the tinted window and showd me a reading of 14 stating that it should have been 50 for the tint to be allowable. He then himself told me that since you have anew car, the original glass would be probably tinted 10-15%, which, added to 35% film would reach 45-50% tint, which the meter showed. Thus I had to get it removed. I got a fine, but was not forced to scratch it off there and then.

Oh, and the kicker - I forgot all about it in dubai, came back a week later, passed the same border in the same car and have went and returned from/to the uae 4 times since then - no complaints!

@Salmonella: I dont know where the Cop got the value of 50%? New unwritten rule? In Oman a 35% tint is allowed, on the sides. Which doesn't mean that tint itself is 35/100 darkness. It means the tint allows only 35% of light hitting the windows to go through. Meaning that 65% of the light is reflected/absorbed. When you see a tint number like IR40, it means the tint is approx 60% dark, and allows 40% light through it.

Now 35% of light going through the window is way more than enough for anyone to see clearly inside.

When the cop put the meter on your windows. It read 14%! That means your tint is actually dark. Like 86% dark! Compared to maximum alllowed darkness of 65%. That IS over the limit. What tint do you have?

@Dobby: Please refer to post 16 of thread. Also, why V-kool?

Yeah, I might try it as well. Thanks and btw I use V-Kool, because I've been using the brand on the other cars too. Never seriously thought about that.

I visited 3M yesterday; the cost of all crystalline films is OMR 225 for sedan car.
Also they will do front lights protection film for free.

Anyone know the cost of Johnson Insulatir

actually the TSER rating for Geoshiled is quite impressive, here is a page from the brochure they gave me when i went to ask:

On the American website you will find that on this page:
    http://www.geoshieldusa.com/solarfilms.html

they also have discounts for people who own the cars in the pic below or work in the places mentioned:

Hello everyone, I came across this thread and just couldn’t help respectfully disputing some of the window tint analysis.

There are a couple of parameters to solar heat protection – but we can look at it from the value vs. technical specs point of view
Visible light transmission – i.e. percentage of light passing through the film. This is usually governed by local laws and regulations. Darker tint has somewhat of an effect on the amount of heat being controlled. The higher the percentage the clearer the film and vice versa.
Total solar energy rejected is one of the important numbers to be looking at – it present and overall value in terms of the heat reduction the window film can provide.
Not all products have similar strengths and it is always put your apples in the right basket for comparison. For example if you were to compare a high end product line of one manufacturer against the lower end of a different manufacturer it would not really be much of a comparison.
Looking at some earlier posts, sure some of the window tints offered around town are exceptional in performance but are offered at a heavy hit to the pocket.
I will not speak for the remaining products, but in my opinion I would like to express that SunTek do have window films with a considerable level of heat protection – sufficient to be considered in the window film analysis.
    Some reasons include:
    · They are manufactured in the world’s most advanced facility
    · They are one of the biggest sellers (top 3) in the United States – where most other manufacturers come from
    · They offer a complete range of hybrid, sputtered through nano-technology through their major product lines – CarbonXP, Infinity OP and High Performance.
    · They offer decent TSER levels across the range
    · They offer various shades (including reflective, charcoal, bronze, blue and black) and good optical clarity without inner reflections
    · They have variety of VLT ranges available up to clear maintain a decent TSER level and comparable to others
    · Products are backed with an extensive warranty
    · Furthermore, an impeccable installation can also make a big impact on the appearance and function of the heat protection film, so it is important to find the right installation place as well.
ArabianGlaze, the SunTek authorized dealer in Oman, offers SunTek window films at the fuel station just next to Markaz Al Bahja. The installers have a combined experience of 20 years and have worked with the majority of leading products on the market. Furthermore, they are also a Meguiars detailing center in Oman with an award winning show-car detailer. This all comes with an assured level of quality product, installation and customer service. They have no association with the store in Ghala and are an independent entity.
