This time last month I got my first 25 OMR bill for my 4mb/sec plan which was usually 39 OMR but I got an add on for a bit of extra surfing (over 10 gb), which was a bit of a worry as the new plan was meant to be unlimited but I thought It was just the bit at the end of the month I used before the plan changed. I got my second bill which I was worried about since I went a bit crazy with the downloading - estimated as 20 gb over the last month and I did not get charged any extra! woooo hooooo. Just thought I had better let you guys know..

Oh good, I have downloaded A LOT...here is hoping mine does not go over the monthly 35 rials.
I upgraded to Plan C on 28th Jan, they said it will take 1 week. I was surprized to see that i was upgraded to 2MBps on 31st Jan (looking at the speed test). So, I started downloading (not much, about 7 GB total in Feb) I just received my bill... and guess what!
I owe 46.728 to Oman Tel... How did this happen?

Not sure how they do calculations... - Plan C was supposed to Include Monthly fixed rental, however as you can see above i got charged 4.9 rials for the month of March!!!
- Even if they wanted to charge me with Plan B for Feb, why did they charge me 16.911 instead of regular 12?
- And best of all they are charging 20 rials for 512/fixed for March.... what the h...
- Not sure why they deducted 2 rials!
BE WARNED FOLKS, This is not good at all.... Omantel needs to be better than that! these are some serious irregularities. Their IT/Accounts could have tested their system before releasing bills.

Oh ****, I did mine on 26th Jan and the upgrade was done by the 27th. I only started downloading in the first week of feb...but I have downloaded like 40 gb or so. I will surely go and complain if the bill is high.
Obliviane, do let us know how much you get charged, so we can be prepared to complain to Omantel. Mine was updated in mid-feb
I checked with a couple of my friends who have upgraded to ADSL and get bills on 10th of every month on email.
You gotta look at their faces when you ask, yah... Royal!

From the looks of it they have not yet changed anything in the system, and I will be billed for the same old limited plan for March too. The bill was actually for 20 rials but they subtracted the monthly rental charge or something.
Anyone experiencing some technical difficulties with Omantel, as in lag and speedtest being redirected to other countries? If so, let me know.
I applied for adsl (2mb) for 20 rials in March but they still not connect yet. It may because they still has this problem.
First they issued the bill for April before even connect. After complaining they said they will cut it off 4 day back.

I applied for ADSL upgrade from dialup in Nov/ Dec. Got it towards end of March since lines were not available in my area.
Well I had one more question, they charged me for initial setup fees RO 5. I point out it is an upgrade from dialup and that was clarified by the fellow across counter at Omantel office.
Now the billing section staff says, upgrade is meant from existing ADSL to higher speed ADSL e.g. 2 mbps to 4 mbps. Should'nt the intent be clear when they say upgrades are free !!!
In India, we do not have any limits on unlimited plans. I am downloading dvds 24x7. But from all the horror stories I have read so far, does Omantel provide ADSL connections quickly?And how do they compare with Nawras?Any thoughts?

Usually I get my bill around 20th to 25. However past 2 months, I am getting that only around 26-28th
It seems they have a problem with their billing system. I can't access the latest bill online (http://212.72.1.167:8500/MyAccount/l...ntel_plain.jsp).

Last month I paid the bill via Bank Muscat online portal. It got deducted and transferred to OIFC, till date my account is not updated.
Contacted everyone, they said its fixed, BUT, still shows no update online @ Omantel. Wonder what is going on?
Considering when I pay online with Nawras the payment is pretty much instant, I once did the same with my Omantel ADSL to re-connect after a disconnection. So I paid online and waited for my internet to start working... well 2 days in and no cigar so I went to the Omantel office to enquire. The Omantel customer service rep told my NOT to pay online with Omantel and that it's 'not good' !!
Hmm Strange thing is that the Payment went through. BUT from Online Bank Muscat its Bank Muscat to OIFC and then to Omantel. Now OIFC has the money, they confirmed it with giving a statement sheet, but, not being updated online @ omantel login screen.
I did complain and got a call from their customer service officer (Mr.Humiar), to be honest, he was extremely helpful. I emailed him account statements etc and OIFC sheet and everything, and finally got an email that the problem is resolved.
It was refreshing to see Omantel representative act like Mr.Humair did, profession and competent, and I appreciate it. Hope that becomes the trend with omantel.
But Still I am keeping my fingers crossed untill I get the fresh bill and my charges are cleared![]()
I have been using omantel's 12 rial broadband connection for a long time now and i applied for a upgrade for the 2mbps unlimited package just 2 days ago,the first day wen i went for the upgrade they said that the upgrade server was down and asked me to come the next day,i went there the next day and they still are giving me the same excuse that their upgrade server is down! When Omantel cannot even get this kind of problem fixed in 2 days then what does it promises people to connect them to the world! Omantel is and always will lag behind when the rest of the world is making progress, no matter what packages it introduces to glitter its companies significance in the eyes of the people!
BIG TIME FLOP OMANTEL!
