OF: Do you actually care about rational and fact-based arguments, or is any "opinion" fair game here?

This thread was closed, and the reason given was that I was "targeting a member for having a different opinion". As far as I know, the way mature individuals argue is by backing up their points instead of spouting whatever comes to their head. So I asked this particular individual to back up what he claimed. In fact, this is nothing new in OF's history. Years ago, we had another thread where the original poster had the decency to try and argue his opinion. The thread wasn't closed and many people joined it asking the OP to prove his point.

Are we going to let Omanforum be a free-for-all where anyone can say whatever random garbage that comes into their head, without substantiating him? How will this ever be a forum for rational discourse then? If someone said something bad and unsubstantiated against Islam, Oman, or HM, I am 100% sure that there will be calls for that person to back up their statements.

You make a good point Cursed Angel. But the problem is that this troll has numerous people believing him and agreeing to what he says simple because he provide an air of authority. It seems disingenuous to silence someone who's calling out blatant lies stated by another.

I'm not surprised that you don't understand the point I'm trying to make, even though it's right there in the title of this thread (errmm... seriously, how "special" are you?). It's evident from all the debates we've had (if it could even be called that, I even feel guilty sometimes because it's like being in a boxing-match against a baby) that you rarely understand any point that anyone tries to make.
