either the tv/laptop needs to have a computer monitor outlet or a HDMI slot. Check each and see. You may need to buy a cable.

How so? the laptop should have an HDMI socket on the side or back, then you have to choose the input on the TV so it finds the HDMI - mine, for example, has a number so I go to input 3 and it's the laptop.

Then I correct the colour, for some reason my TV doesn't automatically correct it. Then on the computer it wants to find a default sound system, usually the laptop, so you have to change it. Right click on the sound icon in the tray and properties...

I connect everything the hdmi port in the laptop and also in the TV. Other laptops detect automatically mine doesn't. I tried right clicking and choosing screen resolution and going from their with no luck.

In your TV, you need to select the "HDMI" port that you've connected your laptop to. In the Sony that will be listed as HDMI 1, HDMI 2 and so on if you have more than 2 HDMI ports.

    (Assuming you're using Windows 7)
On your laptop, right click on the desktop and select Screen Resolution. Here the TV should show up as one of the displays. Under the option 'multiple displays', you can select, 'duplicate these displays' (if that us what you want to do) and click Apply.

I did try that and it did not work. The TV dose not show as one of the displays. The connection from the laptop and TV is correct. My TV has two HDMI ports, one for the receiver the other connected to the laptop so no confusion there.

Did you go to the 'setup multiple displays' in your graphic card settings. You can get there by right-clicking on desktop. Make sure the HDMI cable is plugged in. You should then be able to 'clone' displays.

When I tried it with out tv I simply connected the HDMI cable to the laptop and tv and it displayed the movie in the tv right away. Does your laptop recognize the cable?

Probably need to change the cable. I also used my Humax receiver cable with no luck.
