Thanks

I'm a migraine sufferer. Are you sure you don't have these? Do your headaches ever make you nauseous? Are your headaches ever predominantly on one side? If so, you may want to consult a Dr. for prescription migraine medicine. Imitrex is a fantastic medication that now is available in pill form, by prescription only. It aborts the migraine entirely with few side effects.
First you have to rule out anything sinister such as tumor. A brain MRI will take care of that. Your Dr. may then investigate some of your medical history and eventually you can get relief.
I suffer migrains and was on migrain meds but hate to take medicine. Probably will have to go back on it. I was hoping to find a herbal remedy. The weather here in the Midwest makes it worse, esp. during fall and winter for some reason. Thanks.

I can only tell you that I've tried all the herbal treatments known, or I think I have. None worked for my migraines. My sister takes Inderol which is more like heart medicine, but prevents headaches completely for her. Men cannot take Inderol unless they like impotence. Imitrex is good for me because you don't take it regularly, only when you have an actual migraine.
I will ask my doc about the Imitrix then. I get migrains because of a heart murmmur I have and sometimes I just cannot do a thing. Thanks for all the info.

Well now, Imitrex is not the medicine for people with bona fide heart conditions. That will need to be discussed with your Dr. Inderol is an alternative. My sister takes it for mitro valve prolapse, (or something like that) and it prevents her from ever getting a migraine to begin with.
I have mitro valve and the doc had me on propoanenol (spelling) and that helped with the migrains but I guess I need to get back on something. I went xmas shopping yesterday and my blood pressure went up by 30 points. Normally it is 98 but read yesterday at 122. My pulse was 86 beats per minute.

Codydramol (forgot the spelling) is the only pain killer that does the job for my migraines. Other times, I realize drinking loads and loads water actually subsides my headaches but not all the time.
Marianna,
Propanolol for migraines? Isn't that a beta blocker? I take that when my heart races, at one time, my heart was beating @ 110/mins as if I ran a marathon but my pulse was like that while I was sitting down on a sofa. I take beta blockers only when I get irregular heartbeats. I suppose it's useful for other things, not sure.
I take it for the mitro and stopped taking it. Probably why I feel like crap now. Turning into an old lady ha ha....they say mitro valve prolapse is common among women but if a man gets it usually more serious and can be fatal. I read somewhere, have to find the resource and someone else can do it for me if they are interested, is that a women's heart can withstand stand more pain, more so than a man's (might have to do with child birthing which is one of the most ultimate pain inducers). Read that the woman's heart, though typically smaller, is better equipped.

Might explain why women die more often from a heart attack where men recover. I wish I could offer a link, but I don't remember where I read that. Men get treated and live on.... women often die shortly after the heart attack.
Yeah, I heard that also. Don't know why either. In all other things a woman's heart is stronger but for heart attacks we typically do not recover like men can. I will have to look that up.

Nothing helps migrains except for taking strong tablet - in my case - brufen which really helps me and gives me quick relief from the headache, other than i sleep in a dark room with no noise or any source of light.
I know of a herbal oil exclusively for migraine and there is a possibility its avaialble in Oman too. Haven't used it myself though but I guess its worth trying since there are no side effects. It called 'Pankajakasturi Migraine Oil' (quite a tongue twister huh?) Will check its availability and let you know if I can find it locally.

You must do a CT scan.
We have traditionally old techniques of get reading rid of headaches but it can't be explained.
Pure lavender oil - gently rub one drop on your temples (Muscat Pharmacy). Spray lavender on your pillows and bed sheets, very soothing and relaxing (Al Fair)
I would certainly try any of the above. Migraine sufferers will try anything to relieve this pain. I should mention that Anacin or one of those companies, produced a pill that they claim is for migraine relief. According to my Dr. it is nothing more than aspirin with tons of caffeine.

YOU STOP THE COFFEE!!
ok
Beta Blockers are good for Panic attacks as well which tend to give you palpitations as well as the Caffiene.
We need to have a long chat you are over using medications.
You should check your heart Regularly, Beta Blockers slow the heart rate and if you have a healthy heart it can swing to the other direction, you dont want your heart to be Very Slow.
cut Down the Coffee and even coke which contains Caffine

LAGent is right regarding migraines.
I can not recommend anything but you have to think of things that provoke migraine attacks and see if you can avoid them, in women it may be related to the time of the month.
Stuffy nose, those with allergies may suffer more.
try tapping between your eyebrows see if that is abnormally painful, could be your sinuses.
you people are great (man I can make a living out of you!!)
You guys are wonderful, thanks. I will be seeing my doctor tomorrow. Still have a headache. I know it is a combo of things like stress and the MVP--I need a good night sleep also. Coffee helps sometimes with my headaches and I do need to drink more water. I hate the taste of it but is good for the skin and for the body as a whole.
