Default Do you get a static shock?

Friends, I am tired about this. I am tired about the shock I get on daily while I am in formal attire. Everytime I open-close my office door, open-close the car door, anywhere near to a metal - I get a static shock (I hope that is the right word). I actually could see small sparks at the tip of my finger when it came near the door - no exaggeration !

But while in casual attire - chappals/ slippers put on I dont have any issues.

Does anyone have similar kind of *shocking* experience & what do you do about that ?

May you are a natural conductor of electricity.... Sorry to be kidding enthu. It is quite surprising that when you are with slippers you do not get the shock ... it may be because the sole is rubber but then i keep wondering it should not happen even when you are wearing shoes with rubber sole !!!!

OH MY GOSH - I'm not the only person that this happens too???
happens to me all the time.. (regardless of what shoes - even barefoot!) gets so bad some times my hair goes all haywire..

I think some people just create the static on their own accord...

Me -> Oh I say its just cause I'm electric baby! har har

but yes - its a shocking thing to happen (excuse the pun!)

maybe it's a good thing that we have others to fill up the cars with fuel here. It seems to be a source of ignition sometimes. Women with hairspray have also had their heads on fire I have seen.

You generate your own static electricity deppending on the type of attire you put on, and the conductivity of your shoes. Clothes made up of synthetic fibre like nylon, tend to generate more static electricity than cotton, and insulating shoes make things worst, as the insulation prevent the static electricity from discharging, and thus can build the charge to few hundred volts.

There are few things you can do to help reduce the shocks. First avoid wearing too much synthetic fibres, especially when the air is too dry. Second, if you can, try to wear shoes that are more conductive, the slimmer the shoe sole the better.

Finally, if you work in an office all day, your chair is normally insulated, meaning chaarges can not drain to the ground, so before leaving office, just take off your shoes, and touch the floor with your bare feet for few seconds, then put on your shoes and leave.

My biggest problem with static electricity is when I leave a treadmill, man do I used to accumulate a wallop of static electricity, now I make sure that while I am on a treadmil, I touch a bare metal every few often to discharge so that the electricity dont build up.

Thanks Karim for that scientific explanation :-) which I am trying drill in my head. Yes I do have an office job hardly any movements to be done. Without removing shoes, can you discharge the electricity or whatsoever ?

This happened to me like crazy. So I found the perfect solution. When you go to touch something metal (door handle, car door), dont use your finger to touch it. Use your PALM. You wont get a shock then

Ok folks, now I started to get my palm close to the office & car door instead of finger tips which naturally get pointed. As advised in earlier post now I am absorbing/ earthing (what so ever) that shock and then merrily touching the door. As engram said, I am electrifying personality . There does'nt seem to be a way out defined for me to get rid of this hell thing.

You are charged up because of the electronic devices you are using like for example computers and mobile phones.

To release that static electricity in your body hold quickly in any metal objects for few seconds and you will be discharged.
